The market in the United States for gifts and accessories is as diverse as the country and its people. Gifts are usually linked to a special occasion such as a birthday, a wedding, a graduation, an anniversary, the birth of a baby, the purchase of a new home or a major holiday. Of all of holidays, Christmas is the biggest gift-giving time of the year. There are no prescribed gifts for these occasions. Someone may give a very personal item like a piece of jewelry or clothing, or they may give an item for the kitchen, like a set of serving bowls or a wooden cutting board, or even a more decorative item for the home such as a woven basket, a wall hanging, or a candleholder. This list provides examples of the different types of gifts and accessories commonly sold in the US market.
