Telecentres for young people in Soweto and Mexico City
Big World is working with two development ngos to pilot community telecentres aimed at young men and women in urban areas of Soweto and Mexico City. This work is funded by the UK Government's Department for International Development (DFID).
Soweto
In Soweto, South Africa, Big World is working with Youth Alive, who have over 40 years' experience releasing the potential in young people from township areas.
Mexico City
In Mexico City, Big World's partner is the Armonia Urban Transformation Centre who support vocational and skills training for young people in shanty areas.
This pilot project is to evaluate how community telecentres can be used to benefit young people and the wider community, and to find ways in which community Internet access can be self-supporting and sustainable.
Big World is collaborating with the community development agency Gamos on this project.
